A new and exciting feature will be coming to xtra xtra soon: verified accounts.

As we see more and more milestones coming to the site from different sources, we realize that some readers want to know which milestones are coming from official sources; these include schools, PR affiliates, businesses, or town officials. To give our readers and those posting more assurance about the content on xtra xtra, we’re unveiling this new feature that you will be seeing around the site.

Verified accounts will now be a part of the xtra xtra user experience. Certain official users, usually institutions who continuously post multiple items, can contact xtra xtra at support@xtraxtra.com to request a verified account. After a quick evaluation of the user’s credentials, our site’s staff will verify the account. A small check-mark icon will then appear next to the user’s name on his or her posts.

Why are we creating verified accounts? We know that news comes into our site from a variety of sources, and we encourage everyone to share their announcements on xtra xtra. Verification will let you know that we have checked out a certain source and that the information is coming to us directly from them.

We want to continue to earn the trust of our users, and account verification is another tool to help us do so! Keep your eyes peeled for verified postings in your favorite towns, and remember to let us know if your institution would like this special status for your account, too!
